Cancelling an AI subscription without losing the month
Where the cancel button actually lives, what happens to your data, and the mistake that ends access immediately.
Cancelling is usually easy; the confusion is about what happens next. Two things matter: whether access continues until the period ends, and whether your data goes with it.
If you subscribed through the vendor
Open the plan or billing section of your account and cancel there. Access normally continues until the paid period ends — cancelling is not the same as requesting a refund, and it should not cut you off immediately. If a cancel button cuts access instantly, you are looking at a "downgrade now" option, not a cancellation.
If you subscribed through a mobile app
Cancel in the store, not on the website. Apple and Google bill independently, so a cancellation on the vendor's site does nothing to a store subscription. This is the single most common reason people keep getting charged after "cancelling".
If you bought through a reseller
There is no self-serve cancel, because the subscription is not in your billing account. Ask support before the period ends and say whether you want it to stop at renewal or immediately. Most resellers will simply not renew — access runs to the end of the paid month either way.
What happens to your data
Conversations and projects stay attached to the account. Losing the subscription does not delete them, but it does remove your ability to open them, and the vendor may prune data on its own schedule. If you need something, export it before the period ends, not after.
The mistake to avoid
Deleting the account to "cancel the subscription". That removes your history permanently and often does not stop a store-billed subscription, so you lose the data and keep paying. Cancel first, delete later, if at all.
If you were charged after cancelling
Check which billing path the charge came from before disputing it. A dispute on a charge you actually made — even by accident — is the fastest way to lose an account permanently. Contact support first; most will reverse a renewal made within a day or two.
