What is a Claude Organization ID and where to find it
The one field every activation asks for, why it exists, and the two places it is displayed.
Every activation form for Claude asks for an Organization ID. It is not a password and it is not secret in the way a password is — it is the identifier of the workspace your account belongs to. It exists so that a subscription can be attached to the right workspace when an account can belong to several.
Where to find it
There are two places, and either works:
- Settings → Account. Sign in, open the account settings, and the Organization ID is listed among the account details. It starts with
org_followed by a string of characters. - The plan or billing page. If your workspace has a subscription section, the same identifier is shown there next to the workspace name.
What it is not
It is not your email, your user ID, or an API key. Pasting an API key into an Organization ID field will fail, and the failure looks like a generic error rather than a clear one. If the value you copied starts with sk-ant-, you copied a key, not the organization.
Is it safe to share?
With the company activating your subscription, yes — it identifies where to apply the subscription and nothing else. It does not grant access to your account and it cannot be used to log in. It is still not something to post publicly: combined with other details it can reveal which workspace you are on.
If the field is rejected
Three common causes, in order of likelihood: a trailing space from copying, a partial selection that cut the string, or a value from a different account than the one being activated. Copy again from Settings rather than typing it by hand — the string is long enough that a single wrong character is easy to miss.
What happens after you submit it
Activation is applied to that workspace and the subscription appears on the account bound to it. Nothing about your login changes, and no password is involved at any point. The plan comparison covers which tier is worth attaching in the first place.
